EPR routinely conducts multimodal corridor planning efforts and recently completed an update to a regional long range plan for the central Virginia MPO. EPR also works extensively on local planning projects to inform comprehensive plan updates. EPR has provided transportation planning services for small area planning efforts throughout Virginia. Example projects include:
Urban Development Area Planning – EPR staff (Vlad Gavrilovic) led numerous small area planning efforts under the OIPO UDA planning grant program.
Fauquier County Small Area Plans – Through our on-call services contract, EPR has provided small area planning services (in addition to the UDA plans through the VDOT contract) for Marshall, Bealeton, Opal and New Baltimore service districts. The small area plans included transportation system strategies, identification of a road network suitable to meet the needs of future growth, assistance with community meetings to discuss the transportation concepts, and assistance with integrating the plans into the overall County Comprehensive Plan.
Orange County Germanna-Wilderness Area Small Area Plan – EPR, through an on-call contract with Orange County, is working with a multidisiplined team to create a detailed plan for the future development of approximately four square miles of new development area, envisioned as a mixed use development to include a corporate campus, town center, variety of housing types, medical complex, and a workforce training center.
Cocoa Beach Florida Sector Plan – EPR, working with Dover Kohl (national urban planning firm), served as the transportation planner for a creative placemaking planning effort to re-envision a beach community in Florida. The transportation plan addressed complete street improvements, multimodal accommodations, and strategies to transform key streets to fit the context of the desired development.
TIA’s for TND, Mixed Use, and special traffic generators –Recent example project efforts include Belvedere in Albemarle County, Downtown Crozet (Barnes Lumber Company Site) in Albemarle County, Rosedale mixed use community in Lynchburg Virginia. Each of these developments were unique in their desire to incorporate traditional neighborhood design principals into the fabric of the community with the goal of making a unique “place” that would be economically successful.
