EPR, working through an on-call contract with the Central VA Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), on behalf of the Town of Appomattox and Appomattox County, is providing a corridor study for the Old Courthouse Road Corridor. The study corridor provide a connection between the Appomattox Courthouse National Park, Museum of the Confederacy, and the Town. The National Park receives over 200,000 visitors annually and the County and Town have expressed a desire to improve the entry corridor to capture the interests of the tourists in terms of providing a link to the Town while encouraging tourism related development.
The study, to be complete by June of 2013, includes a visioning component, traffic and multimodal analyses, conceptual design of improvements, final recommendations for physical improvements and design guidelines for future development. The study effort has included two public forums and will culminate in late spring with a presentation of the final recommendations to Town Council.
